Enabling screen saver or accessing screen saver settings is not a straight-forward job in Windows 10, especially for users who have just upgraded to the latest version of Windows operating system.

The classic Personalization window (from where we could access screen saver settings dialog) has been removed from Windows 10, and the new Settings app also doesn’t include options to enable screen saver settings.

Screen savers continue to be part of Windows 10 operating system. A total of six screen savers are available: 3D Text, Ribbons, Bubbles, Mystify, Blank (shows black screen) and Photos. If you have installed new screen savers, they will also appear in this list. You just need to access settings and enable them.

Change screen saver settings in Windows 10

In this guide, we will see how to access screen saver settings and enable a screen saver in Windows 10.

Step 1: Right-click on the desktop and then click Personalization to open Personalization category in the Settings app.

Step 2: Click Lock screen. Click Screen saver settings link to open Screen Saver Settings dialog.

Step 3: Choose a screen saver from the drop-down box and then click Settings button to customize the selected screen saver.

For instance, the 3D Text screen saver displays Windows 10 text by default. You can customize it to display your name instead.

You can see the preview of the screen saver before applying it by clicking the Preview button.

The default idling time after the screen saver starts is 1 minute. You can change it to any value between 1 minute and 9999 minutes.

Finally, click the Apply button.

If you have set a password for your local user account or using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you may check On resume, display logon screen option to force user(s) to enter the password.
