Many of the popular applications out there for the Windows operating system are available in multiple languages. Google Chrome, like other software from Google, is also available in over a hundred languages.

After using the Chrome browser in a non-English language for a while, you might want to change Chrome’s display language (UI language) back to the familiar English language. Or you might want to change the language back to English after you accidentally changed the language to a foreign one.

In this guide, we will see how to set English as the default display language in the Google Chrome browser for Windows.

NOTE 1: You can use this guide to change Chrome’s display language from any language to English.

NOTE 2: You can use this guide, even if you accidentally changed the Chrome’s display language to a language that you don’t understand or cannot read.

Change Google Chrome display language to English

Step 1: Launch the Chrome browser. Click on the three vertical dots icon (refer to the picture below) and then click on the third option from the bottom of the menu to open the Chrome settings page.

Step 2: Here, click on the small down arrow icon present in the left pane to see the hidden tabs. Click on the globe icon (8th tab from the top if you cannot understand the current language) to switch to the language tab.

Step 3: Here, in the first section, expand the languages list by clicking on the down arrow icon. The language list displays previously used and your current language. The language that is currently being used shows up at the top of the list.

If you cannot read the current display language of Chrome and you previously had English as the display language on Chrome, click on the three vertical dots icon next to the second language in the list and then select the first option. Restart the Chrome browser to apply the selected display language.

If you have multiple entries in the languages list, do the same for all languages to apply the English language.

If this does not work, refer to the directions in the next four steps to set English as Chrome’s display language.

Step 4: Click on the link (refer to the picture below) to open the language list.

Step 5: Select the English language from the list. Click on the button on the right (refer to the picture below) to add the selected English language.

Step 6: Finally, click on the three vertical dots icon next to the newly added language and then select the first option.

Step 7: Close the Chrome browser and relaunch it to change the display language to English.
