Baby monitors come in all types and with many different features. Some have nightlights, lullabies, white noise, and even temperature checks. They are so important for your peace of mind. You always want to know that your baby is safe and sound no matter the time. So how long do the VTech baby monitors last?

The battery on a VTech monitor should last about 13 hours when using just audio and 7 with the video turned on. It doesn’t take too long to recharge a VTech monitor, but the camera needs to stay plugged in.

Now, as technology gets better, so does battery life. VTech has one baby monitor with up to 19 hours of battery life, including video streaming. This would be the VTech VM819. Let’s look at the battery life, how long it takes to charge, and even some troubleshooting tricks for the battery.

Battery Life of a VTech VM819

As previously mentioned, there are different models of VTech baby monitors. Since we are looking for the length of battery life, let’s look at the VTech VM819.

The VTech VM819 has a total battery life of up to 19 hours when fully charged. A full charge happens after about 12 hours of uninterrupted charge time.

This means any time your child has supervised attention, go ahead and make sure your VTech is plugged in and charging.

When you first get your baby monitor, open up the back end and ensure that the reusable, rechargeable battery is plugged in correctly. If you need to replace the battery for any reason, open up the back of the monitor itself, not the camera part, and just replace the battery.

Troubleshooting Tricks

All technology can potentially have issues or hiccups when being used consistently. Sometimes it could be as simple as replacing the battery, or there could be more serious issues.

Battery not Charging

The first issue is why the battery is not charging. The first thing you are going to want to do is to open up that back and make sure the battery is plugged in correctly. Then make sure the AC adapter is also plugged in correctly. If the battery charging light does not come on, there is something wrong.

Make sure your charger is working, and if that continues to be a struggle, you can always reset your monitor. Sometimes doing a quick reset can fix any glitches that could have popped up.

To do a quick reset, it involves unplugging the rechargeable battery, waiting 15 seconds, plugging back in, and turning it back on.

Connectivity Issues

When you turn your VTech monitor, it usually takes a second to link up with your VTech camera. If it is still having issues, you might be too far away. Try getting closer. There is also a way you can reset the monitor on the side of the monitor. Get a pin or paper clip, and you should be able to push the little reset button.

Sometimes interference from other devices can cause issues, but it’s not so common of an occurrence nowadays.

Monitor Keeps Beeping

Every parent can tell you that one of the most annoying sounds in the world can be when your baby monitor starts beeping. It can be for a number of reasons:

  • Low batteryProximity issuesIt’s alerting you to an issue

Just go through and check to see what could be causing the issue. When it comes to temperature, sometimes the VTech monitor can have issues with that feature, so as long as you have other methods of keeping an eye on the temperature, you can turn that feature off.

Replacing Parts

Let’s say you have an issue with the motherboard or the hardware. This could be anything up to your toddler getting a hold of your monitor and breaking the LCD screen. If it is within 30 days of purchase, VTech will replace your item.

It’s probably a good idea to get a warranty on this item as it is used consistently. VTech should honor this up to about a year. Beyond that, you will have to take it to a licensed technician to get it repaired. It might be better at that point just to buy a new one.

VTech Battery Life

Overall the VTech is a great monitor with a decent power life. At its worst, it holds about a 13-hour charge after its 12-hour charge period, and at its best, it’s about 19 hours. If your battery isn’t holding the charge it should, just remember you can always replace the rechargeable battery.
