SimpliSafe is one of the most popular home securities in the United States. It is usually sold in bundles or separately, but getting a full bundle for your new home helps you feel safe and comfortable. The bundle includes many accessories, including the entry sensor which is usually placed on your window, door or wall.

The SimpliSafe Entry Sensor comprises two parts. The communication technology section, which is used for the pairing process and it’s the larger part. And the magnet, which is the smallest part. Once the bond is broken, it immediately sends a signal to the SimpliSafe system.

It’s likely that after a year of a safe home, the current location of the sensor isn’t needed and you want to remove it. That makes sense, because getting a new one for a different location when you have one that you want to remove would save a lot. Keep reading to find more about it.

How Do I Remove a SimpliSafe Entry Sensor?

You can remove the SimpliSafe sensor from a door or a window by clearing it from the panel and removing the entry sensor and magnet from the door or window. If the sensor incorporates a lot of wires, then you may need to disconnect the wires from the sensor and remove them from the wall. The process is simple.

There are two ways in which the components can be attached. The screw or adhesive. Follow these steps to guide you on removing a sensor from your door or window.

Delete the Zone

Delete the zone located in the panel. This involves entering the zone programming, locating the current zone and deleting it from the system. The process requires your systems’ installer code. The process depends on the model of panel you are using. For more guidance on deleting the zone, refer to the panel’s instruction manual.

Disconnecting the Wires

If your door or window sensor is hardwired, you are required to disconnect and remove the wires. This should be done both on the panel and on the sensor. If the door sensor is recessed, then you would need to remove it from the window or door frame to access the wires.

You could use a screwdriver to disconnect the wires and remove the wires out of the opening. If your sensor isn’t Hardwire, you can skip this part.

Take the Sensor Off

Remove the sensor from the window or door frame. This depends on how the sensor has been placed. If the sensor was mounted by screws, you can use a screwdriver and carefully remove the screws. If the sensor was recessed, you can rotate it slowly and pull it out of the window or door frame.

Lastly, if it was mounted with a double-sided sticky foam tape, move the sensor side-to-side until it loosens up and takes the sensor off the adhesive.

Remove the Magnet

Now this part is quite tricky. The process depends on how the magnet was mounted. If it was placed by screws, you can simply use a screwdriver and carefully remove the screws. If it was mounted by a double-side foam, you can pull the magnet carefully and peel the tape from the frame.

But, it might be difficult to remove the magnet. Here are quick steps to remove the magnet from an adhesive tape:

  • Using a hairdryer, warm up the area. This would help loosen the tape. With a bit of strength, you can be able to pull it off.If you can, take a butter knife and push the tip under the margent portion of the sensor. Continue to push till it comes out.

You can use the sensor and magnet on a different window, for or even a wall.

What Happens After I Remove the Sensor From the Door or Window?

You have finally gotten the sensor out of its old location. What’s next? Well, reusing the double-sided tape isn’t an option because the product is only used once. But, if you have extra you could use it, if not you could always get more in your nearby electronic store.

The SimpliSafe Entry Sensor uses the 3M Command Adhesive Tape. Which is able to attach on hard surfaces like your wall or door frame.

Meanwhile, the magnet portion of the sensor uses the 3M VHB Tape. The Tape is highly bonded and is meant to stick permanently. Moving the position of the sensor won’t be easy, so make sure you place it properly.

If you’re replacing the tape, peel off the old tape from the back of the SimpliSafe Entry Sensor. Be sure to apply pressure to the new tape on the sensor for 30 seconds, and when placed on a flat surface, apply a 30 second pressure to stick firmly.
