Instead of getting it on your computer, or another workaround, you can always try printing directly from your phone. The iPhone has its own way of printing with an HP Deskjet, but how do you connect to your printer from your Android?

Connecting to the WiFi Network

The first thing you need to do is ensure that your HP Deskjet printer and Android phone are connected to the same network.

Connecting your Android phone to the WiFi network is one of the simpler things. First, open the Home Screen. Then, go to the Settings app. Once you are in Settings, you can find the WiFi settings and choose which network you want to connect to. Finally, put in the password.

When setting up the printer’s WiFi, you will need to start on your Android device. Make sure that your Android device is connected to your network’s WiFi.

Adding the Printer to Your App

Inside the HP Smart App, there is a plus sign where you can add a printer at the top. Once your printer searches for a network, it should start appearing on your Android device. The app will prompt you to continue and type in your WiFi password. It should take a few minutes, but it should connect to your WiFi with no problem.

Now that you’re connected, you can print many different types of documents. Keep reading to learn how to print on your HP Deskjet from your Android.

How to Print on the HP App on an Android

Inside the app, it will tell you not only the printer you want to print from but its ink levels too. Further down, you will see that you should be able to Mobile Fax, Camera Scan, Print Photos, and Print Documents.

To print, choose either the Print Photos or Print Documents tiles. From there, it will give you two options:

  • All Files & Photos: from here, you can choose to print from a PDF or from your photosAdd Accounts: here, you can link to any of your accounts from Dropbox to Google Photos.

Either way, you should be able to choose the file that you would like to print. Please be aware that you can only print JPEG or PNG photos or PDF documents on an Android device.

On the print preview page, you should be able to click the printer icon. From here, you should be able to change your Layout settings, number of copies, and even if you want a color or black/white page. After making those changes, click the printer icon on the top right corner once more, and your document should print.

WiFi Direct lets you connect directly with your printer without needing a wireless router. The only thing you need is the HP Smart App.

Go to your printer, and wake it up. Then, if WiFi Direct is available and enable it. If your printer does not have a display, press and hold the WiFi Direct button and the Info button to print WiFi Direct instructions.

After you click the WiFi Direct button, go to your HP Smart app:

  • Click the plus sign to add a new printerAt the bottom, find where it says “Looking for Wi-Fi Direct Printers?”Search for printersSelect the printer you want and, if prompted, enter the WiFi direct password. The default is 12345678. If you’ve changed the password and forgot it, don’t worry; finding it is easy.

This should add the printer and allow you to print like normal.

Other Features and Troubleshooting

The two other sections on the app that we didn’t really touch on were the Mobile Fax button and the Scanner.

On the scanner, you should be able to scan your files and either send digital copies or even print them directly.

Whereas the Mobile Fax allows you to scan a document or pull directly from online to send it to the fax number you choose. You do not need a fax number to send documents through the Mobile Fax feature, but you do need one to receive them.

If you are having issues, make sure you first try to reset the printer network settings by going to the Network Setup and touch Restore Network Settings. If your printer is not looking for a network, your computer won’t be able to find your printer. For those without a touch screen display: press and hold the wireless and cancel buttons.

In Summary

So whether you are printing a cherished photo or even a document for work, rest assured you can print from anywhere using your Android device.
