PC users can use either a Microsoft account or a local user account to sign in to Windows 10. If you’re using a local user account, Windows 10 shows your username and user account picture on the login screen so that you can sign in by just entering your password. Likewise, if you’re using a Microsoft account, your Microsoft account email address appears on the login screen along with the user picture.
The default settings make it easier to log in to Windows 10 by showing your username or Microsoft account email address on the login screen as you don’t need to remember and type in your username or email address. But if you’re serious about the security, you should hide your username or Microsoft account email address on the login screen.
When your username or Microsoft account email address is not appearing, anyone will find it challenging to sign to your account. In other words, anyone who tries to gain access to your PC needs to enter not just the right password but also the correct username or email address.
Unfortunately, there is no option under Settings or Control Panel to stop Windows 10 from displaying a username or email address on the login screen. However, you can make it happen under Group Policy and Registry Editor.
Follow one of the given below methods to hide username and email address on the login screen of Windows 10.
Method 1 of 3
Hide username and email address via Settings
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Accounts > Sign-in options page.
Step 2: In the Privacy section, turn off Show my account details such as my email address on the sign-in screen.

Hide your username and email address on the login screen via Registry
Step 1: In the Start menu or taskbar search box, type Regedit, and then press Enter key. When you see the User Account Control dialog, click the Yes button.
Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Step 3: Now, on the right-side, double-click on the entry named dontdisplaylastusername, and change its value data from the default 0 (zero) to 1 (one).
Step 4: On the right-side, right-click on the empty area, click New, click DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it as DontDisplayLockedUserID.
Step 5: Double-click on DontDisplayLockedUserID, and then change the Value data to 3 before clicking the OK button to hide username or email address on the login screen of Windows 10.
Method 3 of 3
Hide email address/username on the login screen via Group Policy
Since Group Policy Editor is not present in Windows 10 Home edition, this method applies to Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise editions only. If you’re on Windows 10 Home edition, please follow the instructions in Method 1.
Step 1: Open Group Policy Editor by typing Gpedit.msc in Start menu or taskbar search box and then pressing Enter key.
Step 2: Once Local Group Policy Editor is launched, navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
Step 3: On the right side, find the entry named Interactive logon: Display user information when the session is locked, and double-click on the same to open its properties.
Step 4: Under the Local Security Setting tab, select Do not display user information from the drop-down menu.
Step 5: Finally, click the Apply button.
Step 6: Once done, go back to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
Step 7: Look for the entry labeled Interactive logon: Do not display last user name, and then double-click on it.
Step 8: Under the Local Security Setting tab, select Disabled, and then click the Apply button. That’s all!
Windows 10 will never display your username or Microsoft account email address on the login screen from now.
