Here Maps App For Windows Migrates Nokia Accounts Extends Voice Navigation To More Countries

A recent update for HERE Maps now offers users a series of new features that they have been asking for for a long time. Users can now migrate their Nokia account to their HERE account, set their position manually or they can change the routes brought up automatically. This updates targets Windows 8.1. devices.

Apart from the Nokia-HERE account import, the update also offers voice-guided navigation for 18 more countries for which this feature was not previously available. Here is the list of the new added countries: Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cyprus, Iraq, Libya, Mauritania, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Also, city pages have been redesigned “to make them even more relevant and to bring exploration to the foreground”.

Moreover, you can now set your position manually. There are devices that cannot pinpoint your location very accurately or they cannot pinpoint it at all because they do not incorporate a GPS chip.

And there are even situations when your operator does not provide HERE with exact information. Due to this fact, you can now manually set your position when you launch the app – tap on the green dot that indicates your position on the map. You can also choose your location from the settings panel. In case you change you mind, you can always switch the location detection from automatic to manual.

Plus, you can change route options in order to avoid certain means of transportation such as ferries. If you’re planning to visit many places on a road trip, you can also add waypoints and rearrange them as you like afterwards using the drag-and-drop option. And if you want to have a paper version of your route, you can now print it.

HERE Maps is obviously the best choice when you want to find your bearings without Internet connection. You can use this app to explore more than 140 cities worldwide. But once Windows 10 gets released, it will also sport offline maps, which will be another feature similar to how Nokia Here Maps currently operates.
